Newsletter Term 2 Issue 1
Principal News
Welcome to the first electronic newsletter for Burbridge School.
A big thank you to the parents and community members who have nominated and taken on roles within the School Board and P&C. I am excited to partner with them in their endavours for school improvement.
A very big thank you to Shellie and David Martin for their very generous donation of a Tobii Dynavox Eyegaze and Gravity chair to school. These will be greatly appreciated and widely used throughout the school.
We are now heading into winter and the Noongar Season of Makuru. With that comes the potential increase in illnesses. Please refer to the pictorial reference below to support your decision making of when your child should not attend school and when they are ready to return.
WA Student Assistance Payment
Dear Parent or Carer,
Your State Government recognises the cost of living pressures West Australian families are facing, as a result of higher interest rates and increased day to day costs.
Providing cost of lving support to Western Australians is our number one priority.
We also believe that nobody in Western Australia should be left behind in their education. All students should have what they need for school - regardless of their financial situation.
That's why we are pleased to introduce a new initiative to help with cost of living pressures for families with school-aged children.
The new WA Student Assistance Payment will provide parents and carers with a $250 payment for each secondary student, and $150 for each primary school student or kindergartner.
You will need a valid WA Student Number (WASN) to be eligible for the payment. Please contact the school to get this number. Letters were sent home with your child's WASN.
The Payments will be available through the ServiceWA app from the start of Term 2 (April 15), and we encourage you to use the coming weeks to set up your ServiceWA account and digital identity. Further infomation is available at wa.gov.au/servicewaapp
Visit education.wa.edu.au/wasap for information on eligibility and how to claim.
We hope this initiative provides both relief to the family budget and an important investment in your child's education.
Yours sincerely,
Hon Roger Cook MLA Hon Dr Tony Buti MLA
Premier of Western Australia Minister for Education
Cricket WA Four week program
What a busy term it’s been in Senior Secondary! We’ve had Cricket WA program Off Their Own Bat come and visit our school to provide support and opportunities for our senior students to engage in an inclusive cricket program. This program is to ensure that all students who take part are encouraged to participate with support in a manner that helps build their confidence to grow at their own accord. The senior school students have enjoyed learning how to use the bat and ball with their peers. We are looking forward to next week’s game! Hazel Kelly - Area H Teacher

News From Area ILC
Area ILC has had a very busy start to Term 2! We have begun our Community Engagement Program and have been out and about in our local area. Each Monday we practice travel training by catching a Transperth bus to the Alexander Heights Shopping Centre. Our class then buys the groceries we need to create our items for Burbridge Bites from Woolworths. Once we are all loaded up with fresh produce it is back on the bus to Burbridge to create delicious pizzas to deliver to hungry customers.
On Friday we travel to Superbowl in Warwick. We are practicing our 10-pin bowling ready for a tournament we will be holding on the last Friday of Term 2. The ILC students are incredibly excited about showing off their skills during the competition.
Thursdays will see Area ILC access the work experience program as a class. Together all staff and students will travel to the Osborne Park site and put in a hard day at work before returning to Burbridge for a well-earned rest… and swim when the pool is ready!
We are having a wonderful Term 2! Colette Bailey - ILC Teacher

A big Happy Mothers Day to all of the beautiful Burbridge Mums!
Area A and Area B held a Mothers Day Morning Tea on Monday, which gave us an opportunity to extend the celebrations of the amazing women in our life. We were joined by our Mums and Nan Nans for an hour as we played outside, showed our them around the classroom, decorated cupcakes and took some happy snaps in the photo booth. All of the students enjoyed having their Mums come to class and we hope the Mums had a blast too. Lara Hosking - Area B Teacher
