REMINDER: WA Student Assistance Payment
The WA Student Assistance Payment helps parents and carers with the cost-of-living pressures associated with sending their children to school. The second round of the payment is now open, with claim submissions available through the ServiceWA app. All Western Australian school students in Kindergarten to Year 12, with a valid WA student number (WASN), are eligible for this cost-of-living payment. You can claim $250 for each secondary student and $150 for students attending primary school or Kindergarten. To claim the payments, parents and carers are encouraged to set up a ServiceWA account. More information is available at wa.gov.au/servicewaapp

Area A
We have had a great start to Term 2 in Area A! Each morning begins with our TEACCH Trays, helping students build independence as they complete a TEACCH box from start to finish. After recess and lunch, we all look forward to our structured sensory play sessions, which are both engaging and enjoyable.
In maths, we are doing number, measurement and shapes. Our literacy lessons have been full of fun as we enjoy letter-of-the-day craft activities, followed by finding and practising beginning sound of words which aligns with the letter of the day. This term in science, we are diving into chemical science. We all are investigating about the materials around us and their properties through lots of hand on activities. In art, we are discussing and exploring the Paul Klee’s inspired art projects, and we have painted our beautiful castle. For sports, we are learning how to ride a bike and in health, we are learning about the healthy food choices. In Week 2, we were also busy creating some very special gifts for our wonderful mothers in preparation for Mother’s Day!

Area B
We had a fun-filled, busy Term 1 in Area B. During our maths lessons, we borrowed the hallway for games of ‘What’s The Time Mr Wolf’ and number hunts. In our English lessons, we wore dress-up glasses to look at the day's letter and find it on our devices. We then wore dress-up ears to listen to the sound the letter made in words. We also wrote shopping lists and drew and wrote on the interactive whiteboard. During our art lessons, we discussed the works of Picasso and created our own collages. For sport, we played games of soccer and had dance parties. So much fun!
Term 2 is shaping up to be another exciting term with our class bear, Billie, beginning to visit families and our LILAC (Ladies We Love And Adore) afternoon session. Stay tuned for more of Area B’s adventures.

Area C
Science in Area C
We have been discovering and comparing how things move in Area C. We have explored how people move and how toys move. We even made puppy dog puppets that can move! Look at our amazing work.

Area C2
It has been a busy and exciting start to the term in C2.
In swimming, the children have been practising how to float in different positions and are growing more confident each week. We have also enjoyed lots of sensory play, exploring a range of textures and materials.
The children spent time making and preparing special gifts for Mother's Day, using their creativity and fine motor skills.
In Maths, we have been learning about shapes, recognising and naming them through hands-on activities. In English, we are using weekly storybooks to guide our writing. This week, we read Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, and the children enjoyed creating their own responses to the story.
We also helped Donnie celebrate his 9th birthday with some cake and party food—what a fun way to end a busy and exciting start to the term in C2!
Well done to all of C2 for their great effort and learning!

Area D
In Area D we are incredibly proud of the progress our students are making. We try our best to address each student ‘s sensory needs and it improves their learning and reduces anxieties and promotes positive classroom behaviour. This term we are working on sensory rich activities and individualised sensory profiles to help each student thrive. Team work and collaboration has been a cornerstone in Area D. Our heartfelt thank you to families for your on going support. We are excited for what’s to come and can’t wait to continue this journey with such an amazing group of students.

Area E
Area E started Term 2 off with a great start! All students returned with smiles on their faces and happy to be back in the classroom with their friends. They immediately picked up the daily routine and knew what was expected of them. We decided that we would do all things fun and engaging in all the daily tasks. The students enjoyed playing games in the afternoons with their teachers and their classmates, which was a highlight for all. Our classroom “book of the week” was Pete the Cat and his four groovy buttons, which the students enjoyed watching the staff reenact parts of the story. If this is how our term has started, then we are going to have a fantastic 10 (now 9) weeks ahead.

Area F have been enjoying the warmer months in the pool, showing off their aquatic skills!
The students have many talents ranging from gliding forward, floating on their back and kicking in the water. And sometimes they just like to lay back and relax after working hard!
Whatever it is that the students do in the pool they are sure to say ‘hooray’ when they know it is swimming day! 😊

Area G/H
A huge welcome back to Burbridge to all our families, we hope you had a safe and happy Easter break.
Term 2 in the Senior School looks to be an exciting one. We have been focusing upon creating items for the school’s Mother’s Day stall next week. We’ve been out picking fruit and making jams and marmalades as well as collages, badges, mobiles and more.
Visits to the Alexander Heights Shopping Centre and to Team HP will commence in the coming weeks and we are keen to see our students out and about in the community on a regular basis. We have been out harvesting from Burbridge’s fruit trees and we hope you see the ‘fruits of our labour’ very soon!
Here are some memories from Term 1. We engaged in lots of sensory experiences, cooking, computer programs, MOVE and more.
Regards, Colette, Liz and the GH Team

ILC
Area ILC have been enjoying physical education lessons. They have completed obstacle courses designed to test their balance, played tag games that challenge their speed and agility and ball games that show off their gross motor expertise. Playing group games is the focus for this term and a highlight has been learning how to play the “Steal the ball” game. All of the boys enjoy this game and are already starting to show improvement. I wonder what group game they will learn next?
