Principal's Report
Hi all
Well here we are at the end of Term 2 already, that marks the halfway point of 2024. It has been an eleven week term but we have all ended it strong with lots of positives, great activities, excursions/incursions and successes.
I am pleased to say the Burbridge School P&C have held two meetings this term. The team is filled with lots of skills, knowledge and enthusiasm and I can't wait to see what they have planned for the future.
I had been hopeful that our swimming program would be able to recommence in Term 3 however there has been a delay. My fingers are crossed for Term 4.
Term 3 will see a new face in the administration team as we welcome Anna Ward, second deputy principal. Anna brings with her a wealth of experience and skills that will compliment the team.

Area ILC
Area ILC has had an incredible start to 2024! We have been working very hard to raise funds through our various Enterprise endeavours. Burbridge Bites each week is growing in popularity and the students are enjoying catching the bus each to the Alexander Heights Shopping Centre to purchase the ingredients and returning with them to make and deliver mini pizzas. Thank you everyone for your purchases and wonderful feedback!
We have also started going out to work experience each Thursday to Work Power in Osborne Park. The students are enjoying practising the work skills that we have covered in the class in a ‘real world’ work setting. It has also provided us the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
Friday the 28th of June will also be our last day of our tenpin bowling program and will provide Area ILC students with the opportunity to show their parents how far their skills have progressed this Term with a Bowling Tournament.
We have all earned a holiday and look forward to a brilliant Semester 2!

In Area D students have worked hard in all subject areas. They enjoyed sensory activities, music, and sports. They also had an opportunity to participate in NAIDOC day celebrations and Sensorium incursion.

NAIDOC Week
On Friday the 21st of June, Burbridge School celebrated NAIDOC Week. The students participated in 3 different activities throughout the day in class groups. The students went for a bushwalk and looked out for the native animals and their QR codes, along with touching and smelling the Geraldton wax bush. The students also made damper which had wattle seed and Geraldton wax. The theme for NAIDOC Week this year is ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud.’ To celebrate this, the students painted their hand or a stamp of a native Australian animal in the colours red, orange and yellow and placed them on an outline of a burning flame.

Can you do what I can do?
Each day we participate in “exercise”, which is where we see if we can do what our teacher can do. We are shown a picture of what we need to do, then we see the action modelled to us by our teacher, and then we attempt to do the same action.

I do, we do, you do
Area B
Every Wednesday for the past four weeks the Junior Primary students have engaged with a sensory reading of the story ‘The Big Rain is Coming’. This production was performed by Sensorium and is based on the story written by Katrina Germein. It is about an Aboriginal community waiting for the rain to come. The students have felt the warm rocks from the ‘hot dry land’, squeezed the large fluffy rain clouds and explored fire through the crackling cellophane. This is the last week Sensorium is with us. I wonder if this is the week the rains will come…

Area C2
Well, it definitely has been an extra busy term with lots of extra activities taking place. C2 have been working hard in all their learning areas and playing hard by enjoying the fun activities too. We have enjoyed joining up with another class for our sport sessions and playing all different types of games that involve turn taking and sharing. Another interesting and fun activity the class was involved in was the Sensorium incursion that took place for the last four Wednesdays of term. They were involved in a story being told about when the rains would be coming. The students got to partake in listening to songs and instruments, feeling sensory items and hearing all different sounds that were made from everyday objects. It was exciting to finally hear the end of the story and if the rains did in fact arrive! Spoiler, they did 😉
We just want to wish all families a happy and safe holiday, all ready for the next term.
