Principal's Report
Hi everyone,
Hope the Term 3 holidays went well for you. The final term of the school year is always buzzing with lots of student and staff activities, and it is an understatement to say time literally flies as we are unbelievably already into the start of week 3.
A few updates to begin with, Jo Gordon our substantive Principal has been called away on an important family matter interstate and I have stepped into her shoes until she returns in week 9 of this Term 4, 2024. Hazel Kelly our Area H classroom teacher in 2024, has gone on leave a bit earlier than expected. We wish Hazel all the best in anticipation for the arrival of her baby in early January 2025.
Taking over from Hazel, we have Teoni Jugg, or T as she prefers to be called, teaching in Area H for Term 4 2024. Teoni has a wealth of knowledge and experience in teaching students with Multiple Sensory Impairments and Complex Care Needs. Teoni is passionate about AAC and is a whiz with a PODD book having trained others in how to use them. Teoni is trained in Conductive Education, a program with some similarities to the MOVE program and understands the importance of getting all our students up and MOVE-ing. Finally, Teoni has taught all over the world including in the UK, Africa, Asia, New Zealand and of course here in Australia. So we would like to welcome Teoni to Burbridge School, very happy to have you on board.
Our swimming pool has been up and running since Monday week 2 and after much work with securing a transportable, we now have an amazing new classroom, Area K in the senior end, as well. More works are in the pipeline, with modifications to improve the layout of the senior playground. We will keep you updated as the term unfolds.
On a final note, we have a school assembly this Friday the 25th of October, which also coincides with World Teacher's Day, which provides us an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the immense effort and dedication our teachers put into making a positive difference in our student's lives. So it's Hats Off to our teachers this Friday:)

We hope you all enjoyed the school holidays and report that your child has settled well into Week 1. Please welcome Mathew who will work with us for the rest of the year as an Education Assistant.
Area F will read stories linked to our Science topic of Weather, Earth and Space. We will make moons, stars and planets and this week our story is called Brother Moon. This is an Aboriginal story about how the Moon can help us.
We are looking forward to making lots of yummy recipes such as lemonade and rock cakes this term. We are also planning lots of activities for our whole school Fun Day at the end of the year.

Area ILC
Senior students in the ILC class are excited to participate in the Burbridge Bites program, where they’re crafting delicious strawberry, banana, and mango smoothies! Each Monday, students catch the Transperth bus to the Alexander Heights Shopping Centre to gather fresh ingredients. This initiative not only promotes teamwork and responsibility but also enhances their culinary skills.
Every Wednesday, the students blend up these refreshing smoothies, offering them for just $3 each. Orders can be conveniently placed through Burbridge Bites, making it easy for everyone to enjoy a tasty treat while supporting the program. This project will continue until the end of Term 4, allowing the students to refine their smoothie-making techniques and continue to engage with the wider community.
We greatly appreciate the support from everyone involved—your enthusiasm helps make this experience even more rewarding for our students. Enjoy the smoothies and thank you for being part of this exciting journey!

Smoothie Time
Area B
Area B has had a fabulous start to the term and have been enjoying our maths lessons. For our number work we have used blocks to create a number line and matched the correct amount of packing peanuts to the number. We are also lining up and counting the class each time we enter or leave the room. In our measurement lessons we have explored long and short with playdough snakes and by adding and taking off sections of train tracks. For shapes we have been sorting different objects and making playdough shapes. Great work Area B

Budding Mathematicians
Area C2
The students in C2 have had a fantastic start to Term 4. This week, during shared reading, we read ‘The Very Busy Spider’ by Eric Carle. The students participated in fun learning activities such as making a spider in arts and crafts, recognising numbers using AAC in Mathematics, counting plastic spiders, and adding them to the webs. We continue our daily Literacy rotations, focusing on phonics, sensory-based activities, and independent reading. We are enjoying our morning outdoor play skills program in the KPS school playground and our bushwalks around the school. We tasted blueberries, strawberries and yoghurt in cooking to make a berry smoothie. We also enjoyed playing fun card games in the afternoons, including ‘Snap’ ‘Crazy 8’s’ and ‘Go Fish’.
